
Dunkirk Water Rescue Team
The Dunkirk Fire Department facilitates the operation of the Dunkirk Water Rescue Team which consists of members from the Dunkirk Fire and Police Departments. All of the members of the water rescue team are certified Scuba divers and have completed a rigorous training program. The Dunkirk Water Rescue team is lead by Lieutenant Gary Katta of the Dunkirk Fire Department.
The water rescue team operates multiple pieces of apparatus including Boat 1, a 21' Zodiac Hurricane and 2 Yamaha personal watercrafts. Boat 1 is equipped with twin 90HP Honda Four Stroke motors as well as a GPS system. Boat 1 is moored at the Chadwick Bay Marina during the summer boating season, and housed at Fire Station 3 during the winter months. The personal watercrafts are housed at Fire Station 3 year round and available for quick response and deployment.
The water rescue team is pleased to offer its assistance to boaters in an effort to make the Dunkirk Harbor and surrounding waters a safe enjoyable place for boating.
