
City of Dunkirk’s Downtown Area Ravished by Fire
At approximately 5:15pm on Wednesday February 24, 2010 a Fire was reported at the Masonic Building located 323-325 Central Ave in Dunkirk. Fire Crews from 14 area fire departments assisted the Dunkirk Fire Department as they fought throughout the night to contain the damaged area.
All city departments are currently mobilized to deal with both the immediate public safety concerns and assist the displaced businesses and building owners with finding alternative business locations and services. Mayor Frey has committed the necessary City resources to insure the safety of the public and insure the economic viability of Downtown Dunkirk. He was quoted as saying “This is a sad day for Dunkirk but this community is resilient and will bounce back”
Owners and operators of displaced business are encouraged to contact the City of Dunkirk’s Department of Planning and Development for assistance. In addition property owners with available office space are also encouraged to contact his office as a list is being complied to referred displaced businesses to alternative sites.
